Another bucket list ticked – Switzerland!
This was our first winter escape and navigating the snowy roads in Switzerland with the kids. Every corner of this enchanting country offers a feast for the eyes, whether it’s the snow-capped peaks of the Alps, the crystal-clear waters it’s a perfect place for family traveling with kids!
Here you go, our 10-day itinerary in Switzerland, carefully planned to ensure a fun and safe trip for everyone in the family:
- Day 1: Arrival in Zurich/Luzerne
- Day 2: Interlaken
- Day 3: Grindelwald
- Day 4: Jungraujoch
- Day 5: Blausee
- Day 6: Zermatt
- Day 7: Matterhon
- Day 8: Bern
- Day 9/10: Zurich
Day 1: Arrival in Zurich/Luzerne
We took arrived at Zurich in the noon and head straight to pick up our rental car (pre-booked online) right at the airport. The process was easy and hassle free, we did a quick check on the car ensure it’s in good condition (we took a video of the car as well , just in case if there is any dispute later), and we were set to go!
The sun set about 4pm during the winter, we had our dinner earlier and stay overnight in Luzerne (about 30 minutes drive from Zurich airport). After a long overseas flight and adjusting to a new timezone, it’s natural to feel exhausted, so keep the plans light on the first day to allow for rest!
Day 2: Interlaken
We departed from Luzerne early in the morning and drive to Interlaken (approximately 2 hours). We arrived Lake Brienz, and look for the filming location for the romantic drama “Crash Landing On You“, however, the weather was not very good and we literally took photo under the rain and it turned up to be all the fun shots instead of a romantic one!
Day 3: Grindelwald
- Take a scenic cable car ride to Jungfraujoch, the “Top of Europe” (allow a full day for this excursion).
- Enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.
- Visit the Ice Palace and Sphinx Observatory.
Day 5: Interlaken to Zermatt
- Drive from Interlaken to Zermatt (approximately 2.5 hours).
- Explore the car-free village of Zermatt and take a stroll around the charming streets.
- Overnight in Zermatt.
Day 6: Zermatt to Bern
- Drive from Zermatt to Bern (approximately 2.5 hours).
- Explore the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town of Bern, including the Bear Park, Bern Cathedral, and the Clock Tower (Zytglogge).
- Overnight in Bern.
Day 8: Bern to Lucerne
- Drive from Bern to Lucerne (approximately 1.5 hours).
- Explore Lucerne’s Old Town, Chapel Bridge, and Lion Monument.
- Take a boat cruise on Lake Lucerne or ride the cogwheel train up Mount Pilatus or Mount Rigi.
- Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 9: Lucerne
- Spend a full day in Lucerne, visiting attractions like the Swiss Museum of Transport or hiking in the surrounding mountains.
- Enjoy a leisurely evening exploring the city’s restaurants and cafes.
- Overnight in Lucerne.
Day 10: Departure from Zurich
- Drive back to Zurich (approximately 1 hour) and return your rental car.
- Depending on your departure time, you may have some free time to explore Zurich further or do some last-minute shopping.
- Depart from Zurich.
